| We are from Christchurch so Akaroa and its ambience is not a surprise to us - however the 3 surprises were the two hosts and the magnificent lodge/surrounds. There was such a welcome as others have said, we felt special, especially the personalised touches. We loved the various living areas and rimu ceilings - special. | Dear Linda and Ray: Sorry to be slow I didn't want to rush my reply and there were comparisons to be made with other places we stopped on our trip. Now that I can look back on our entire experience, I can say without hesitation that our day and night at Acapella Lodge was far and away the best thing that we did. Let me be specific: Your home and your location couldn't be nicer. The moment we walked in the door we felt welcomed and among friends. Our rooms were lovely, the beds were comfortable, it was great to be able to walk out of our doors into your charming garden and I could go on and on. The bathroom was spotless and had everything a weary traveler might want. Our private living room was equally well provisioned with all kinds of unanticipated extra comforts. Breakfast was great, etc. etc. Now here is the important thing. It was abundantly clear that the two of you are remarkable people. It is unusual to see such a passion for making everything absolutely first class. Within a very short time we felt we could rely on your suggestions for restaurants, hikes, side trips and whatever. You could have sold us a live insurance policy or picked the girl for Ian to marry and we likely would have taken the advice. I am I making myself clear? It was far beyond good and well beyond excellent. We are deeply grateful for the fabulous time that we had with you. |
